Four games from Bungie over the past decade, and across two consoles, have defined an era of first-person shooters and played an enormous role in catapulting video games into the pop culture mainstream. Let me say this outright: Reach is the best game in the Halo franchise, by far. Following the trend started for themselves in ODST, Reach follows a team of protagonists — Noble Team, and the ensemble cast works well, with each member of Noble Team having their own unique personality and influence on the plot. It works well, and the diversity keeps things interesting. The dire situation that the planet finds itself in makes for a compelling, gripping, and ultimately somber story dripping with conflict. A few carefully scripted in-game moments, a well rounded cast of characters, and well directed cut scenes make this the most cinematic Halo game ever. Sprint and active camo cloaking are obvious advantages that play as you would expect, but abilities like Hologram and drop shield have found themselves being used in unexpected ways both in single and multiplayer skirmishes. Armor abilities may continue to be a point of contention among veteran Halo players, but they can be turned off in custom games, and certain playlists in matchmaking will limit certain armor abilities, usually only leaving sprint, a generally included ability in most shooters. Generally, I think the addition has remained at least mostly balanced, and people have adopted it enthusiastically. Being able to customize the player controlled protagonist, Noble Six, was a powerful choice for me.

This is a creative solution that will allow players use mods and play modded maps in Custom Matches and Campaign mode. This news comes as a welcome addition to longtime Halo PC fans who have always known modding as part of the game. Halo: Combat Evolved modders opened up new sections of familiar maps, such as the cliffs high above Blood Gulch, and modded weapons to make machine-gun rocket launchers or sniper rifles that fired like tanks.
Modding eventually became so popular in the PC community that the developer that originally ported Halo: Combat Evolved to the platform, Gearbox Software yes, the Borderlands developer , released a new multiplayer-only version of the game called Halo: Custom Edition that was essentially an expansion designed to be a playground for modders.
I can’t quite say this is the one I’ve been waiting for —that’s Halo 3—but Halo 2 joined the Master Chief Collection on PC Tuesday night, and it’s an ideal place to start really devoting time to Halo’s online multiplayer. It’s still fun, but not a game I’d dump hours of time into. Halo 2, even after 15 years, feels just deep enough.

GhaleonEB is a well known member of the Halo community and known mostly Going by the user ratings of the custom maps in matchmaking, it was received out months after Sandbox shipped arrive in the first week of Reach’s life cycle.
Respected for his well thought out opinions and mature approach to discussion. I try to evaluate things based on what they try to be, rather than what I wanted them to be, and on that basis, I thought the tool was ideal for what it was primarily designed for: spawn, weapon and objective placement, and a sandbox-y place to play with friends.
The challenges were many. And so all of the maps I built through to completion and polish were either in the crypt or basin. And in each map, I would learn the tricks to maximizing the tool a bit better — such as object merging and edge alignment — and so my final maps got closer and closer to the initial vision. How was your map received? On the community forum that helped shape it, Entrenched was well received and so I had an idea that it might go over well with the broader community.
Of course, the first two times I ran into it in matchmaking, it was vetoed. Since that was not part of the initial design spec, Bungie did not have any infrastructure in place to build a pipeline from custom content on through to matchmaking. And because someone from Bungie had to be on the end of the process, they would only ever be able to touch a tiny fraction of community content. With that said, I thought Shishka did about a good a job as could be expected given the tools and resources he had.
I wanted to build a large, vehicle-heavy map in the sky bubble, but was never able to, even when I split the bases and used primarily air vehicles. At its best it was a fun playground, and a good tool to adjust spawns, weapons and objectives. I spent many an hour with my kids just messing around; it was the Halo multiplayer sandbox distilled to its purest form.
Accessing Saved Custom Maps in Forge, on Halo: Reach
We don’t know yet how it is faring on Microsoft Store, but Steam launch figures are very strong as it peaked at over K concurrent players on Valve’s platform. That said, Halo Reach doesn’t exactly look very hot even at 4K resolution and ‘enhanced’ graphics on PC, which isn’t too surprising given that it’s a port of an Xbox game originally launched in The first easy tweak to do is enforce 16x Anisotropic Filtering via your graphics card’s control panel, as the game only goes up to 8x with the ‘enhanced’ graphics preset.
That will help with the definition of textures a bit.
The furthest along, it looks, are Forge and Theater for Halo: Reach, as you Maps created in Forge can be shared across all platforms, so are to Reach’s matchmaking playlist updates, community-reported issues, and.

Forge Q&A: GhaleonEB
The original Master Chief Collection was a total mess at launch. Now the same could happen on PC The initial thrill of re-living old Halo games on a high-end, responsive platform wears thin as the reality of game dev, Microsoft, i’s history, and other factors hit home. I have some serious doubts it can be pulled off without delays and lots of complications.
Has the usual 9-to-5 grind of matchmaking and credit farming got you down in the dumps? Has Grifball lost its flare? For the month of April, players will be treated to two new playlists, Action Sack and Team Classic; both of which offer something new and old to the Halo: Reach experience. Starting with the old, Team Classic is a community-powered playlist that will send you back to your Halo: CE and Halo 2 days. This playlist is comprised of recreations of classic maps that fans have made in Forge World.
Power-ups have also been turned off to further simulate the a classic Halo experience. Action Sack will throw a lot of new, wild gametypes your way. Power Slayer rewards you for every kill by either giving you active camo, overshield, or extra grenades after each kill.

In level 8 there is a place you have to go to called club Errera. In the Halo 3 credits which are also in the game booklet under “extra special thanks” there is a person named Claude Errera spelled exactly the same as the place in the game. I think the location was named after them.
